⛵Low Water, Changes & Some Good News! ⛵

Ahoy GMSC!

Unfortunately, our lake levels continue to be extremely low, and it’s starting to effect of our sailing programs. While we’re all hoping for some much-needed rain from the nearby storms on the Gulf Coast, we have to make a few adjustments.

🏁 Let’s staff the race committee so the Hobie fleet can race! We only have a few race days left, and we need more RC volunteers for all three:

📅 Sunday, September 6 – Labor Day Regatta, Sunday only
📅 Sunday, September 20
📅 Sunday, October 4 - Final Centerboard Race

Normal 1:00 PM Harbor Gun all three days.

Come work RC with me—it’s fun! You get a great perspective on racing, and most importantly, it helps get our sailors on the water. We need you!

We typically wrap up the summer sailing season with our all fleet Labor Day Regatta. This year, instead of two days, we will only race on Sunday due to low water. Hobie's will have a normal 1pm harbor signal and any Sunfish are welcome if they're able to get out to the race course. After conclusion of the final race, the club will host a burger grillout at the Pavillion. All are welcome and the grill will be ready if you'd like to bring your own main. No fee will be collected and registration is not required.

All GMSC members and guests are welcome out to the pavilion after racing circa 5p on Sunday the 6th for burgers with all the fixins!

Unfortunately, the low water is also affecting our Y-Flyer and Flying Scot summer series. The low levels are preventing these fleets from launching, so there will be no end-of-season sail-offs this year.

Looking ahead, the LeMans de Maumelle race must be cancelled and the first winter series is also in jeopardy if water levels don’t improve.

But it’s not all bad news…

🎉 FALL BALL IS ON! 🎉

Save the date for Saturday, November 21st at LRCC. More details to come!

Let’s keep supporting each other and volunteer if available! And please ...somebody remind Mother Nature that sailors need water.
